As a graphic designer for more than 52 years, a graduate of Indiana University with a BA in Fine Arts and graphic design and owner of Deal in Design, I've transitioned from traditional typesetting and printing technology to embrace the current digital revolution. I retired from teaching at SCC after 26 years, where I was the program director for the Fredrick D. Kagy Education Award of Excellence winning Visual Communication program. I taught Typography, Digital Prepress, Design Self Promotion, Graphic Design I, II, III and IV, Visual Brand Design, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and Intro to Computer Graphic Arts. I’ve been honored with several industry awards including the Z.A. Prust Industry Achievement Award, the Maricopa Community Colleges Adjunct of the Year award and the Excellence in Service Award from the Printing Industries of Arizona/New Mexico. I also serve on the Workforce Development team for Print Creative Alliance and the scholarship committee for RAISE, providing support, awareness and financial endowments to encourage the advancement of instruction in the graphic communications industry. I sit on several advisory boards for Arizona Career and Technical Education high school programs, the advisory board for Communications Media Technologies Programs for the Career & Technical Education for the Arizona Department of Education, and facilitate SkillsUSA regional and state competitions. I have co-authored a text book—Graphic Communications: Digital Design and Print Essentials with the late Dr. Zeke Prust. While graphic design is my chosen profession, teaching is my passion.
